Science Day

Science is so fun and fascinating! It was Science Day todayMy first session was geology. Karl, a geologist, came and told us all about rocks, fossils, minerals and gems. He showed us a video clip of gems and crystals and it showed us about their properties and what their value is - some of the gems were priceless! Karl also had a big collection of his own. He had crystals, rocks, minerals and he even had a bit of fossilized tree trunk from Antartica from 3 million years ago. Antarctica was very different 3 million years ago - it had trees! The rocks and gems he brought were very cool, some were multi colour end and some were just one amazing colour.
The next session I had was very very cool - I did chemistry! We had lots of chemicals, a couple of which would be dangerous if they got in your eyes so we had to where protective glasses. We got a little test tube and we put some of the chemicals in. It was very interesting watching what colour they turned. People had test tubes that had colours in them ranging from brillant blues to orangey copper and some were even multi coloured. I made a coppery colour with some white in it. The chemicals had names like AL which is aluminium. After we made one test tube full we washed out the test tube and tried some more chemicals. Science is so much fun and I think we should definitely have another Science Day!
